About Me

I have always painted - its just who I am. I love recreating images which bring you in to experience something of the place where weather, colour, sound and smell unite. Islands in particular inspire me. The ever changing light and coastlines with moors and mountains bridging the gap to the other side. Sunrise and sunset in seasonal tones feature alongside cottages, boats, animals and birds. I love Western Isles washing lines - they are never limp and still! I love peat stacks and the memory of smells they evoke. I love crashing waves and still waters alike with sand and sand and sand in every shade imaginable. Arran inspires me most - mountains and seas surround with pastures rough and smooth. I have painted here full time since the 1970's. My work sells in local craft shops and hotels or from my home on the Island. I have been mostly self taught but also mentored by other artists like the late Jim Gorman. I also took part time lessons in portraiture at Glasgow School of Art.
